Driving towards a better future 01.06.2009

Blackburn College is hitting the road over the next three months in a bid to get more Lancashire residents back into the classroom.

The eleven-week road show will be touring Lancashire with advisers and College representatives offering advice to individuals about courses and the benefits of returning to education.

Advice is targeted at those already in employment who want to improve their career prospects or those who are unemployed and want to improve their skills.

The College bus will be visiting a total of seven boroughs in Lancashire and certain locations are specifically aimed at those wanting to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.

Ian Clinton, Principal at Blackburn College, said: “We're trying to promote education in Pennine Lancashire and this campaign is part of a drive to bring the message of education to the public and promote the diverse range of courses that we offer.

“People are being kept out of work because they do not have the required skills which is why we are urging those who are unemployed to come and see what we can do for you.”

The College offers a number of Government funded training opportunities through their various programmes including Train to Gain, Apprenticeships and Skills for Life.

The bus will be:
• Accrington Market Hall from 10am until 4pm on 4th June

• Chorley town centre from 10am until 4pm on 9th June

• Burnley Town Centre from 10am until 4pm on 2nd July
